There are a number of ways you can help our cats and other cats caught up in the shelter system. However please note that individual shelters have different ways of working, and some may not even adopt direct to the public.
Anyone working in rescue will tell you that rescue doesn’t end with removing a cat from a kill shelter – truthfully that’s the easy part. ‘Saving a life’ must have the goal of responsible rehoming the cat. We don’t subscribe to the view that this is a job for ‘just anyone’. As of 1 January 2011 we will only work with volunteer foster carers linked to a recognised rescue.
Donate to our Chip In
At 31 December ChipIn Contributions were $1257. Brilliant – thank you. These helped offset boarding fees and continued to allow us to sponsor more cats.
Our own $$$$ contribution to boarding and sponsorship exceeds donations by at least three times over – not sustainable without your help.
It’s also possible to send funds for boarding and vet costs via Pay Pal direct to the rescue boarding our kitties. Please send donations to melissaspets[at]aol.com using the reference Greenville.
To sponsor a cat currently on Greenville’s Death Row call the shelter directly on : (864) 467-3950 and pay the pull fee by credit card. Alternatively, email animalcareservices@greenvillecounty.org. The subject line of your email should include the name of the cat coordinator (Andrea), the word SPONSOR, and the cats name and reference number.
Sponsoring an animal does not guarantee that the animal will be rescued. It does make it easier for a rescue to pull that animal, as they can pull the animal with no charges for the vetting.
Offer to adopt one of our ‘Death Row’ Cats
If you live in South Carolina please think about adopting a rescue cat. You can meet our rescue cats and others equally deserving of a forever home at Furry Friend Rescue Center @ HI C Farms, 2775 Ranger Road
Clover, SC 29710, 1-803-230-3648
Help a local shelter / adopt locally
No matter where you live it’s possible to help your local shelter or adopt a cat locally. Listings for Shelters and Humane Societies (in the US) are freely available online. There are many ways to help. Most shelters will welcome donations of food or blankets or toys. There may also be volunteering or sponsorship options. You can of course adopt a cat too!
In the UK the best resource is Cat Chat which lists rescues and shelters by region. SSPCA and RCPCA are also good starting points because they don’t keep cats indefinately especially if a cat is returned to them.
Sadly the rehoming process of some shelters and rescues is sadly lacking…
